to | from St Petersburg 'Pulkovo' Airport (LED)
If you arrived in St Petersburg by plane for the first time and want to get to the city by public transport, you need to purchase a single ticket on board bus, since long-term cards are sold only at metro stations.

You can purchase a ticket with cash, having previously withdrawn the cash from the ATM in the airport hall. Also, in all shuttlebuses plying between the airport and the metro station "Moskovskaya" - numbers 39 and 39E (express), card readers are installed to pay for travel with cards with the technology of PayPass (MasterCard) and payWave (Visa).
If you have a device synchronized with your Visa or MasterCard, you can pay in the same way as for holders of 'plastic'
Additional information in the chapter 'Single tickets'

Between the airport and the subway running also a so-called 'Shared Taxis' (minibuses K39), but we do not recommend this mode of transport because of its relative unsafe (crazy drivers).
IWarning! Very important! Never use illegal taxis! It can be too expensive and even unsafe! Remember, licensed drivers never look for random customers at airport or train stations! How to distinguish not licensed cabmans see here

Of course, you can also book a private transfer (incl with english speaking driver). It will be a little more expensive, but now you have nothing to worry about!
For example, the cost from the airport to the city center will be only 3-5 dollars more (payment in Russian rubles). Compare by yourself! Here are the prices of the official taxi at the airport desk, and here are the prices of a private transfer

If you want to call a taxi yourself, for example by phone or via mobile app, read the detailed instructions here

So-called 'Shared Taxi' in St Petersburg, Russia (clickable)
Shared Taxis (in Russian - MARSHRUTKA) are a small buses or minibuses that run often along the same routes as ordinary buses, trams and trolleybuses.
Route numbers, alongside the most important stops, sometimes in English for popular tourist attractions, always are displayed prefixed with the letter 'K' on the front and side (see photo).

The difference is in the fact that 'Shared Taxis' can stop for boarding and disembarkation anywhere in the route, and not at official stops only.
To stop the bus on the street, you need to raise your hand. If you are on board, ask the driver to stop. It`s advisable to do this in advance.
Phrase 'stop here' in Russian - ASTANAVITE ZDYES`
Остановите здесь - Link to sound

Besides, the fare here is usually higher and no any discounts are given (for children, students, seniors etc). Payment is possible only by cash or by 'Podorozhnik' travelcard with loaded E-Wallet and sufficient balance.
The cost is indicated at the entrance to the bus and usually is 40-60 ₽ depending on the route within St Petersburg.

Note! Although 'Shared Taxi' sometimes is the fastest and cheapest way to travel (incl to suburban attractions of Peterhof, Pushkin, Gatchina etc), we do not recommend this mode of transport because of its relative unsafe (crazy drivers).

If you just visit temporarily, the electronic wallet on the card and its top-up, if necessary, are ideal for you. To pay for public transport in St. Petersburg it is best to purchase a PODOROZHNIK card (In Russian - ПОДОРОЖНИК, In English - Plantago or Plantain).

  • Maybe you:
How and where to buy a combined travel card 'Troika-Podorozhnik' for Moscow and St Petersburg? It's profitable?
    Support:
This is a difficult question. Our answer is - 'rather uncomfortable'. And that's why.

    1) You need to find exactly the combined card. Normal 'Troika' or 'Podorozhnik' will be valid only in one of the cities. Problem - combined cards are not sold everywhere (usually at subway near train stations only).

    2) You will not be able to write to the card any of the possible long-term passes. The card is valid only as an e-wallet. This means that there are no discounts and you just replace cash with plastic card.

    3) And further. It is impossible to add any amount for St Petersburg in Moscow and vice versa. This means that you still need to go to the ticket office or to the ticket machine again.

Our advice is to buy a regular local card. The cost of plastic is less than 1 USD, but you will be more flexible in choosing passes and you will receive an additional souvenir!

Types & cost of tickets (cards)
It is necessary to buy the PODOROZHNIK card for 60 ₽ before you add tickets to the card. You can buy and top up all types of long-term travelcards at ticket offices and self-service ticket machines at any metro stations. You can re-use your card at future visits to St Petersburg.

There are separate types of passes — for example, only for subway or only for buses see all types of passes. We present the most popular combined travel passes.

Combo-passes for periods from 90 min up to 1 month in Russian are called 'YEDINY' (Единый) and valid for travel within St Petersburg only. Outside the city need to buy a additional ticket. On one card, along with any types of long-term tickets, can be recorded 'electronic wallet', for example, for trips on commuter buses, trains and shared taxis
